13 AWG Silver Coated Copper RG214U Coaxial Cable

Also Known As:

Coaxial Cable, Silver Coated Copper, Solid Cable, RG214U Cable, Solid Polyethylene, Black PVC Cable

About:

Many individuals, as well as industries, use coaxial cable. Commonly, in the transmission of communications signals such as audio, video, or network signals. You'll probably recognize these cables if you've ever looked at the back of your cable box or modem. The name of these cables is actually coaxial although many people call them coax. So, what does coax, or coaxial mean? The term coaxial means that the cable possesses two concentric conductors. These conductors are separated by an insulating material. To put it simply, the inner conductor is surrounded by a material that insulates it from the outer conductor. The outer conductor works as a conducting shield. In some cases, there may even be another insulating layer after the shield. Most often, the inner conductor carries the signal carrying voltage while the shield is kept at ground potential. Why manufacture a cable like this? This type of design is beneficial for several reasons. Most important is that this design restricts electric and magnetic fields. The fields are caught in the internal insulating material. This helps to reduce leakage outside the shield. Why use RG214U? Well, this cable has a silver-coated copper conductor. This separates it from RG213U which has a bare copper conductor. The material is what makes this cable different from similar cables. The silver coating gives it a better conduction ability. Another important feature of RG214U is that it offers a double-coated braid shield rather than the standard single braid. Selecting the correct coaxial cable is not always an easy choice.
