Applications:

2-2-4 Aluminum SEU cable is primarily used as a service entrance cable for residential applications, supplying 120/240V power from the utility meter to the main breaker panel. It is rated for 600V and designed for dry locations, with an operating temperature up to 90°C.

This 2-2-4 size, with an ampacity of 100 Amps, is commonly used for:

• Main service panel feeds in single-family homes.
• Meter-to-panel connections in residential buildings.
• 100 Amp service upgrades or replacements.

Construction

Conductors:

Aluminum SEU cable has compact strand soft drawn 8000 series aluminum conductor, per ASTM B-801. The conductor is the electrode in the cable and is responsible for transmitting electric current. 

The "2-2-4" designation means this SEU cable contains three conductors:

• Two phase conductors (hot wires) with 2 AWG size for carrying current.
• One neutral conductor with 4 AWG size, which also serves as the ground conductor per SEU cable design.

Insulation:

Aluminum SEU cable has a type XHHW-2 cross-linked polyethylene (XLP) insulation. The conductors are cabled together with a bare aluminum ground and covered with a reinforced binder tape. For color code, see table B in the technical section. 

Jacket:

The cable jacket used in its design is Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC). The jacket protects the inner components of the cable from potentially damaging external forces. PVC is robust and resistant to oil, sunlight, water, flames, acids, chemicals, radiation, impact, abrasion, and weather changes. Sequential footage markings that help the user identify the appropriate length during installation are noted on the cable jacket.
