Allowable Ampacity for 14/2 W/GRND NM-B: 15 Amps
14/2 NM-B copper building wire is commonly used in residential branch circuits for supplying lighting and standard outlets. It is rated for 600 volts and approved for dry indoor use in environments where the ambient temperature does not exceed 90°C. It may be installed in air voids within tile walls, as specified in NEC Article 334. This wire is easy to pull, making installation faster and more efficient for both new construction and renovations.
Typical uses of 14/2 NM-B rated for 15 amps include:
Standard lighting circuits
General-purpose outlet circuits in bedrooms, living rooms, and hallways
Hardwired smoke detectors
Low-load small appliances (e.g., doorbells, under-cabinet lighting)
Branch circuits for fixtures controlled by a single switch
Wiring inside walls and ceilings in wood-frame residential buildings
Not suitable for high-load appliances, kitchen outlets, or bathroom circuits where 20 amps is required.
