6 AWG Welding Cable Class K 600V Cable

Allowable Ampacity For 6 AWG Welding Cable Class K 600V Cable: 75 Amps

Applications:

6 AWG Welding Class K bare copper cable is used for light to medium-duty welding leads in applications rated up to 600 volts AC and 90°C. Class K indicates finely stranded (30 AWG) bare copper, providing flexibility for easy handling and repositioning.

This cable delivers current from arc welding machines and withstands abrasion, heat, and mechanical wear in both workshop and field environments.

This cable is commonly used in:

  • Light manufacturing and repair welding
  • On-site construction welding
  • Field service operations
  • Mobile welding setups
  • Temporary power supply connections

Also Known As:

6 AWG Class K 90C 600V Bare Copper Temporary Power Cable, 6 AWG Class K 90C 600V Bare Copper Flexible Power Cable, 6 AWG Class K 90C 600V Bare Copper Welder's Cable, 6 AWG Class K Welding Lead Wire, 6 AWG Class K Welding Ground Lead, 6 AWG Class K Copper Welding Lead.

Standards:

  • RoHS Compliant
  • Meets industry requirements for lead-free, environmentally safe construction
  • Suitable for use in accordance with OSHA, NEC, and other regulatory safety codes when properly installed

Construction:

Conductor:

Fully annealed stranded bare copper, class K stranding.

Jacket:

Black premium-grade Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM) is flexible, durable, and resistant to moisture.

FAQ's

What are particular applications of 6 welding cable?
  • Light to medium-duty welding
  • General workshop welding
  • Automotive repair shops
  • On-site repairs of machinery
What is the best welding cable for heavy-duty use: Class K or Class M?

Both are 600V copper welding cables; the difference is in the stranding. Class K uses 30 AWG strands and an EPDM jacket that resists heat, abrasion, and moisture. It’s the standard choice for welding leads, temporary power, and shop work, at a lower cost per foot. Class M uses finer 34 AWG strands and a CPE jacket, so it bends, coils, and routes more easily. Choose Class K for durability and value, and Class M when leads move constantly or run through tight spaces.

How do I choose the right welding wire gauge for my project?

Match the filler wire to your metal thickness and machine. As a rough guide: .023"–.024" for thin sheet and auto body work; .030" for light fabrication up to about 1/4"; .035" for general shop, trailer, and structural work from 1/8" to 1/2"; and .045" or larger for heavy plate on machines above 300A. Use solid wire with shielding gas indoors and flux-cored wire outdoors or on thick, rusty steel. Welding cable is sized separately, by your machine’s maximum amperage and the total length of the electrode and ground leads.

What safety tips should I follow when working with welding wires and cables?
  • Size the cable to your welder’s max output and total lead length; undersized leads overheat.
  • Turn off the welder before connecting or swapping leads.
  • Inspect jackets every shift and replace damaged sections instead of taping them.
  • Keep lugs and connectors tight; loose ones overheat.
  • Clamp the ground on clean metal close to the weld.
  • Fully uncoil leads before welding.
  • Keep leads out of water and away from sharp edges, hot slag, and traffic.
  • Never wrap leads around your body.
What is 6 AWG welding cable used for besides welding?

Outside welding, 6 AWG welding cable is a popular flexible lead for smaller DC systems. Common uses include car audio amplifier power runs, small solar and RV battery banks, golf cart and trailer battery cables, and short temporary power connections for portable tools. Check local code before using welding cable for permanent building wiring.
