Product Information

Specification

ALPHA WIRE RG 6/U 75 Impedance Braid Shield PVDF Insulation Coaxial Cable

Type RG 6/U Alpha Wire is a coaxial cable with a centrally placed solid copper conductor surrounded by an insulation layer and a shield. This cable has a resistance of 75ohms.

Conductor

Type RG 6/U Alpha Wire has a solid copper conductor. Copper is a metal with good electrical conduction property with minimal power losses. The copper conductor is a bare solid meaning; it is not twisted together to form strands. The small diameter of the wire is responsible for the high resistance of the cable. The bare solid copper is flexible enough to be twisted during installation. This conductor is branded 75 because it has a resistance of about 75 ohm impedance.

Insulation

Due to the possibility of accidents such as fire outbreaks and electrocution during transmission of live electricity by the conductor, there is need for insulation. The copper conductor is insulated with Polyvinylidene Fluoride (PVDF). PVDF is a thermoplastic fluoropolymer compound with great mechanical strength. It has good resistance for acids, bases and solvents. Besides, it is very supple and flexible to allow for twisting.

Shielding

When the switch is closed and current starts flowing through the circuit, a lot of electromagnetic interference builds up the dangerous levels hence the need for shielding. Braid shielding is therefore done by tightly wrapping a copper wire round the cable and to provide direct path to the ground, the shield has 75-90% coverage on the surface of the cable. Shielding further increases the overall flexibility of the cable hence longer life span of this cable.

Application

Types Type RG 6/U Alpha Wire is available in different sizes, gauges and qualities hence can satisfy any arising need in the market. It primarily used for video transmissions.
