4/0 AWG Alliance Aluminum Alloy 6201-T81 Concentric Round Covered Shield Polyethylene 25KV Tree Wire
Allowable Ampacity for 4/0 AWG Alliance Aluminum Alloy 6201-T81 Concentric Round Covered Shield Polyethylene 25KV Tree Wire:100 Amps
About:
Tree wire or covered open wire consists of the conductor (aluminum, aluminum alloy or ACSR ) and the extruded covering (conductor shield, low density inner layer and protective outer layer). Covering thickness depends on the system voltage. Itis designed for full span applications and is supported on polyethylene insulators. We also offer a two layer covered conductor design for 15kV systems that are not subject to heavy tree contact. Covered conductors are available in black or gray depending on visual preference.
Also Known As:
• 25KV Tree Wire
• Covered Line Wire
• Overhead Service Drop Cable
• Polyethylene Insulated Aluminum Cable
Application:
Hendrix provides tree wire designed for systems from 15kV through 46kV. Polyethylene insulators must be used to insure dielectric compatibility with conductor covering. Conductors are supported on crossarms or standoff brackets. Span lengths are limited by the conductor breaking strength and the amount of sag that is permissible. Covered conductors are rated for continuous operation at 75°C. (Consult Hendrix sales representative for 46kV tree wire systems).
Benefits:
• Covering prevents faults due to contact
• Proprietary, high density outer layer resists abrasion, electrical tracking and UV degradation.
• Reduced NESC phase spacing is possible due to high impulse strength covering.
• Pole hardware is the same as bare wire construction except that Hendrix polyethylene insulators are required.
Standards:
• ASTM B399 (Standard Specification for Concentric-Lay-Stranded Aluminum-Alloy 6201-T81 Conductors)
• ANSI/ICEA S-76-474 and IEEE 524 (standards for the design and installation of overhead power lines)
• Applicable local and national electrical codes
Construction:
• A core made of aluminum alloy 6201-T81 conductors, known for its high strength-to-weight ratio and good conductivity
• A concentric-lay-stranded design, enhancing the wire's flexibility and strength
• An outer covering of black cross-linked polyethylene or high-density polyethylene, providing insulation and resistance to UV radiation, weathering, and abrasion
• A concentric round covered shield design to enhance its protective features and electrical reliability
Features:
• High electrical conductivity with sufficient mechanical strength to withstand environmental stress
• Excellent resistance to environmental factors such as sunlight, moisture, and chemicals typically found in outdoor settings
• Reduced power outages caused by vegetation interference due to its insulated design
• Compatibility with existing utility hardware and ease of installation, which is critical for effective power distribution
Specifications:
