Product Information

Specification

6 AWG 3C Stranded Metal Clad Copper Conductor Aluminum Armored W/ Ground PVC Jacket

Allowable Ampacity for 6 AWG 3 CONDUCTOR COPPER METAL CLAD ALUMINUM ARMORED W/ GROUND PVC JACKET at 60°C: 55 Amps

Allowable Ampacity for 6 AWG 3 CONDUCTOR COPPER METAL CLAD ALUMINUM ARMORED W/ GROUND PVC JACKET at 75°C: 65 Amps

Allowable Ampacity for 6 AWG 3 CONDUCTOR COPPER METAL CLAD ALUMINUM ARMORED W/ GROUND PVC JACKET at 90°C: 75 Amps

Applications:

The metal clad cable is an electrical wire designed for use in direct burial applications, power and lighting circuits, and cable tray, among others. It is also allowed for use in both dry and wet locations not exceeding 90°C and 75°C respectively. The cable is armored with an aluminum interlocking strip, which offers great mechanical protection. The MC aluminum armored wire also has a green insulated grounding conductor and a PVC jacket. This electrical cable is lightweight and therefore, not labor-intensive, which makes it a cost-effective option over other piped wire installations.

Also Known As:

6 awg 3 metal clad cable, 6 3 mc cable, 6 awg 3 mc wire, 6 3 mc cable wiring, 6 awg 3 armored wire, 6 3 armoured electrical cable, 6 awg 3 mc electrical wire, 6 3 flexible armored cable, 6 3 armored cable wiring, 6 awg 3 metal clad cable type mc.

Standards:

  • UL 83
  • UL 1569
  • UL 1685
  • Federal Specification A-A59544 (formerly J-C-30B)
  • The National Electrical Code
  • Listed for use in UL 1, 2 and 3 Hour Through Penetration Firestop Systems
  • Jacketed & Non Jacketed will both pass " UL Test" & "FT4/IEEE 1202" (70,000 Btu/hr) Vertical Cable Tray Flame Test

Construction

Conductors:

This aluminum armored cable has a stranded or solid copper conductor. Copper is the most common material used in electrical wires and cables, which is mostly because it has amazing electrical properties and is cheaper compared to other metals. The stranding enhances its flexibility and enables it to carry more current.

Insulation:

This metal clad cable insulation is made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC), which is lead-free. PVC is a strong material and can withstand any punishing environment it is subject to. It can withstand heat, moisture, impact, abrasion, corrosion, chemicals, oils, and weather. The PVC is color-coded to enable easy identification of the cable.

Armor:

The interlocking aluminum strip serves as armor applied over the assembly. The armor makes the MC cable highly resistant from crush and rodent as well as ensures installation with no extra inner duct or conduit.
