EMT: 

The "1-1/4" in its name indicates that it is designed to fit 1-1/4 inch Electrical Metallic Tubing (EMT) or Rigid conduit. This size is a standard in the industry for certain types of electrical installations. Made of lightweight, thin-walled steel. It's easy to bend, cut, and join. The surface is usually galvanized to resist corrosion. Uses set-screw or compression type fittings. Doesn't require threading. Easier and quicker to install, can be bent on-site with a standard conduit bender. Provides good protection against mechanical damage but less effective in damp or wet locations unless specifically coated for such conditions.
