What is the disadvantage of underground cables?

  Underground cables are usually installed in urban areas where overhead line rights of way are not possible, like near airports and other locations where an overhead line may endanger lives. Also, they are used in areas where construction aesthetics is an important consideration.

  Although underground cable has a couple of advantages like not being affected drastically by weather or external elements, it also has a few cons related mostly to its costs. The buying options and installations of underground cables can cost three times more than the overhead lines. Being underground also makes it harder to do revisions and reparations if any issue or malfunction appears.
