Type E 14 AWG 19 Strands PTFE Teflon Cable
Type E 14 AWG is one of the members of the versatile type E cable family. It is typically meant for light to medium weight applications since it has a voltage rating of 600 volts. It has one unique feature compared to other cables since it can withstand high temperatures of up to 2000C. It has a large conductor size of 14 AWG with up to 19 strands. This enables it to transmit large amounts of current even in the toughest environments where it is designed to operate in.
Construction
The type E 14 AWG cable is essentially design to have a robust but simples design which makes it weigh less but withstand harsh environments. It is composed of a conductor and an insulator.
Conductor
Its conductor is constructed from silver plated copper or nickel plated copper. Both silver and copper have amazing electrical properties it is just that pure silver is more expensive compared to copper. As hinted earlier in the article, the conductor has 19 strands which increase the cable’s flex life.
Insulation
It is the outermost covering of this cable and still acts as the cable jacket even though in some electrical cables the jacket and the insulator can be installed at the same time. The insulation of this cable is made from Extruded PTFE (PolyTetraFluoroEthylene), which is a robust material. It is resistant to oils, flames, chemicals, radiation, industrial solvents, climate change, acid, impact and abrasion. It is available in various colors including black, white, red, green, blue, gray, yellow, purple and other numerous colors upon request. The colors may be striped or twisted.
Applications
Type E cables can be used in various applications not exceeding 600 volts including military harnessing, power supply and control use in power plants and other operations whereby the cable is exposed to acids, moisture, oils and high temperature.
