18 AWG Solid Copper Clad Steel RG6UW Coaxial Cable

Also Known As:

Coaxial Cable, Copper Clad Steel, Solid Cable, RG6UW Cable, Tinned Copper Braid, Cellular Polyethylene

About:

Coaxial cable RG6UW is often used in the transmission of communications signals. Most often audio, video or network signals. You'll probably recognize these cables if you've looked at the back of your modem or cable box. Most people don't even know that the name of these cables is actually coaxial. Many people call them coax. So, what does coax, or coaxial mean? Coaxial means the cable possesses two concentric conductors separated by an insulating material. Basically, the inner conductor is encased by a cylindrical material that insulates it. This material is then surrounded by a tubular conducting shield. In some cases, there may even be another insulating layer after the shield. Most often, the inner conductor carries the signal carrying voltage. The shield is kept at ground potential. One advantage of this design is that magnetic and electric fields are restricted to the internal insulating material. This reduces leakage outside the shield. So what is RG-6UW Coaxial Cable? The phrase "RG-6" is rather generalized and really refers to quite a few coax cables. These types vary in their conductor, shielding and insulation characteristics. The kind of RG-6UW that most people know is the kind used in cable television distribution. As mentioned above, this is the type of coax that you'll commonly find connecting your cable box. Selecting the proper coaxial cable is not an easy choice.

Applications:

WLAN
CB radio
Broadcast
RF Connections
Two-way communications

Features:

75 ohm cables are used for video distribution. Broadcast CATV (or MATV) signals use RG-59 or RG-6 series.
