Question: How close can water lines be to electrical wires in a hous

  • Hello, I’m making some changes in my home and I have a doubt: How close can water lines be to electrical wires in a house?

Thank you for the help, tips and advices :)

  • Hello Camilo, interesting question! Actually, The National Electrical Code (NEC) doesn’t have specific rules about the separation required between plumbing lines and electrical wiring. However, it is important to consider safety precautions and avoid common mistakes. Here are some tips you can take into consideration:

    • You can create a specific distribution where the electrical wire is in the highest position, the drain pipe next, and the hot water pipe at the bottom of it. In that way, there will be less risk of insulation melting due to the high current loads.
    • The electrical lines must always be above water lines to reduce leaking risk.
    • It will be better to have the hot water pipe insulated and always try to keep the plumbing and the electrical wiring separated for at least a few inches.

    Hope it helps!
