Specification
THHN THWN-2 Copper Building Wire
Applications:
THHN stands for thermoplastic high heat-resistant nylon. Known for versatility and durability, it is the most common type of building cable. The double marking THHN /THWN-2 indicates that the electrical wire is suitable for wet and dry conditions equally (The letter "W" means that it is water-safe). Additionally, the cable is resistant to corrosion, excessive dryness, and the impact of chemicals. It also performs well in cold bending. The building wire is rated 90 degrees Celsius in both wet and dry locations. Nassau National Cable sells THHN THWN-2 copper building wire sized between 4/0 and 1000 MCM. The electrical wire is rated at 600 V.
THHN/THWN-2 is used in a variety of applications in conduit and raceways. Common uses include service cable trays, electrical feeders, and branch circuits. Generally, the purpose of the cable is to ensure power transmission in control systems and in lighting circuits. THHN THWN-2 can also serve as control wires in smaller setups, and small-sized cables used to detect changes. The cable is extensively used in various control systems like automotive plants, wind energy, forestry equipment, oil and petroleum equipment, processing equipment, packaging facilities, etc. Due to moisture resistance, it is a popular choice for tropical regions and near-sea territories. Additionally, the cable can be used in home theater wiring, interior wiring, video checking networks, gaming networks, TV, and radio.
THHN THWN-2 is often used in harsh conditions; therefore, it has to be strong, consistent, and flexible. THHN cables contribute to the safety and stability of commercial, industrial, and residential buildings because they are responsible for external uses of power.
Flame retardancy and excellent resistance to sunlight, water, corrosion, and chemicals are key features of a high-quality THHN THWN-2 wire that ensure its effective performance. The cable heavily relies on the protection of its insulation. Therefore, it is important to buy the cable from a reliable seller.
Also Known As:
Copper wire, building cable, hook up wire, conduit wire, nylon wire, construction cable, thermoplastic-insulated copper wire, THHN-PVC tray cable.
Construction:
Conductors:
THHN THWN-2 conductors are constructed of annealed soft copper that follows ASTM B3 and ASTM B8 standards. When it comes to building wire, copper conductors are superior to aluminum because they remain stable for a longer time. The copper conductor is strong and flexible. As a rule, the cable has 3 or 4 conductors.
Insulation/Jacket:
The cable is insulated with a thermoset plastic jacket (PVC) that is flame-retardant, sunlight-resistant, lead-free, strong, and stable. Without being too bulky, it ensures that the cable can be used in harsh conditions. The jacket is color-coded in accordance with ICEA Method 4.
Stranding:
Copper conductors are compressed stranded, which makes them easier to pull. Stranding ranges from 7 to 19 strands.
Standards:
- ICEA S-73-532
- UL 1277 (Resistant to flame, moisture, and sunlight)
- UL 1581, UL 83, UL 1063 , UL 758
- A-A59544
- ASTM B3 and B8 conductor
- ANSI/NFPA 70 for Safe Electrical Design and Installation
- RoHS compliant
- Safe For Commercial and Industrial Use
- Color-coded #1-E2 per ICEA S-73-532
- May be used in NEC Class I and II systems
- May be used in Division 2 hazardous locations
- Allowed for Exposed Run (ER) and be used in accordance with NEC
