Product Information

Specification

3/0-3/0-3/0-1/0 Aluminum SER Cable

Allowable Ampacity for 3/0-3/0-3/0-1/0 ALUMINUM SER CABLE at 60°C: 130 Amps

Allowable Ampacity for 3/0-3/0-3/0-1/0 ALUMINUM SER CABLE at 75°C: 155 Amps

Allowable Ampacity for 3/0-3/0-3/0-1/0 ALUMINUM SER CABLE at 90°C: 175 Amps

3/0-3/0-3/0-1/0 Aluminum SER Cable Applications:

Aluminum service entrance cable is mainly used in branch circuits and panel feeders. The voltage rating for this electrical cable is 600 volts. Aluminum service entrance cables are designed for use in adverse weather conditions, with operating temperatures being 90°C in both wet and dry locations.

However, type R cables can operate at 60°C when terminated to equipment for circuits rated at 100 Amps or less or if it is marked for 14 gauge through 1 gauge conductors. In addition, SER cables can operate at 70°C when the electrical cable is terminated to equipment in circuits rated over 100 Amps or when marked for conductors larger than 1 gauge.

SER Cable Applications include:

  • Main Feeder Line From a Service Drop To Panel
  • Sub-panel Feeders
  • Large Appliances like ranges, air conditioning units, furnaces, and other large electrical loads.
  • Workshops and Detached Buildings
  • Agricultural Applications: SER cables can be employed in barns, greenhouses, and other agricultural structures to provide power for equipment, lighting, and other needs.
  •  Multi-Unit Dwellings: In multi-unit residential buildings, SER cable can serve as the main feeder or distribution cable to individual units.
  • Commercial Buildings: In commercial settings, SER cable can be utilized in a similar manner as residential – to serve as feeders to main panels or sub-panels, and to power specific high-load areas or equipment.
  • Service Upgrades: When upgrading the electrical service in a home or building to accommodate more power, SER cable can be a go-to choice for the main feeder replacement.

Particular Applications of 3/0-3/0-3/0-1/0 Aluminum SER are:

  • Residential Service Entrance for larger homes
  • Sub-panel Feeders
  • Air Conditioning Units, including  large central air conditioning units or HVAC systems
  • Large Residential Appliances, such as electric ranges, ovens, and water heaters
  • Small to Mid-sized Commercial Buildings
  • Workshops
  • Agricultural Use
  • Service Upgrades

3/0-3/0-3/0-1/0 Aluminum SER Cable Construction

Conductors:

Aluminum type R cable has compact strand soft drawn 8000 series aluminum conductor, per ASTM B-801. The conductor is the electrode in the cable and is responsible for transmitting electric current.

Insulation:

Aluminum SER cable has a type XHHW-2 cross linked polyethylene (XLP) insulation. The conductors are cabled together with a bare aluminum ground and covered with a reinforced binder tape. For color code, see table B in the technical section.

Jacket:

The cable jacket used in its design is Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC). The jacket protects the inner components of the cable from potentially damaging external forces. PVC is robust and resistant to oil, sunlight, water, flames, acids, chemicals, radiation, impact, abrasion, and weather changes. Sequential footage markings that help the user identify the appropriate length during installation are noted on the cable jacket.
