UL Standard for Safety for Flexible Cord and Fixture Wire, UL 62
UL 62 is the Underwriters Laboratories standard for Safety Flexible Cords and Cables. It lists the requirements for flexible cords, elevator cables, and hoistway cables rated 600 volts and electrical vehicle cables rated 1000 volts. The standard determines the approval of flexible cords and cables in the United States, Mexico, and Canada. Other products listed in this standard include service, heater, dryer, and special-use cords.
UL 62 determines the requirements for conductors, insulation, jackets, and other elements of a flexible cord construction. The requirements are unique for each type of cable mentioned. It also determines the physical and electrical properties of the cables, tests that should be performed on them, and applicable markings. The latest 20th edition of the UL 62 was published in 2018.
