What is an Ethernet cable?

Ethernet cable is designed for computer networks and helps data transmission in local area networks (LANs). Besides being incredibly faster, fiber optic wiring technology offers some other benefits. For example, a single fiber optic HDMI can run for up to 24 miles without any data loss, while Ethernet is limited to 1.76 miles only. 

Then, fiber optics wire is safer because it uses light to transmit data instead of electric current, which means there is no fire hazard. For the same reason, fiber optic is not susceptible to any signal interference, which translates into minimized data loss.

Of course, Ethernet also has some benefits, like lower cost and the fact that it is more widespread, hence fewer complications during installation. But fiber optic connectors solve the issue of installation conflict with ease. At the same time, the growing demand for faster connection is reducing the cost of fiber optics.

All things considered — yes, fiber optic wiring is much faster than Ethernet cable, as well as it is safer, more reliable and in growing need. Since the majority of networks will likely be changed to optic cable at some point anyway, it is reasonable to choose fiber optics today.
