Three-Phase Wire Color Code

The three-phase color code in North America is as follows:

  • Black for Phase 1 (L1)
  • Red for Phase 2 (L2)
  • Blue for Phase 3 (L3)
  • White or Grey for Neutral
  • Green or Green with Yellow stripe for Earth (Ground)
A three-phase power line is an electrical distribution system using three alternating currents, each phase 120 degrees apart for a stable power supply.
Three-phase power lines are used over single-phase power lines primarily for industrial and commercial applications that require high power loads, such as in manufacturing facilities and large commercial buildings. They are also used to transmit power over long distances.
