Applications:

USE-2 cables are power distribution cables for service entrance below ground and direct burial, as well as raceways. The electrical cable is approved according to the National Electric Code, except for the use in cable trays. Also Known As:

4/0 aluminum rhh wire, 4/0 aluminum rhw cable, 4/0 aluminum bury cable, direct burial electrical cable, direct burial power cable, direct burial service entrance cable.

Standards:

  • USE-2 meets or exceeds the following standards

  • UL 44

  • Requirements of the National Electrical Code

  • ASTM standards B 800, B 801

  • Sunlight resistant

  • RUS ACCEPTED

Construction

Conductors:

4/0 Aluminum RHH wire has USE-2 conductor that is soft drawn bare made of 8000 series aluminum, with Class B stranding per ASTM. The conductor is the electrode in the cable and is responsible for transmitting electric current.

Insulation:

USE-2 has abrasion, heat, and moisture resistant cross-linked polyethylene (XLP) insulation. The conductors are normally cabled together with XLP insulated aluminum ground or bare copper ground and covered with reinforced binder tape. XLP insulation is tough and resistant to impact, abrasion, chemicals, acids, oils, industrial solvents, and changes in weather.

Jacket:

The cable jacket used in its design is Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC). The jacket protects the inner components of the cable from potentially damaging external forces. PVC is robust and resistant to oil, sunlight, water, flames, acids, chemicals, radiation, impact, abrasion, and weather changes. Sequential footage markings that help the user identify the appropriate length during installation are noted on the cable jacket.
