Specification

10/7 Continuously Welded Armor – Instrumentation Type MC Cable

Applications:

The metal clad cable is an electrical wire that is often used in severe and hazardous environments where the maximum conductor and electrostatic interference protection are needed. It can continuously operate in temperatures of up to 90°C in both wet and dry conditions. However, in case of emergency overload or short circuits, this mc wire can operate in temperatures up to 130°C and 250°C respectively. This electrical wire has a voltage rating of 600V, which makes it suitable for lightweight power applications.

Also Known As:

10 7 instrumentation cable, 10/7 shielded instrument cable, 10/7 armoured instrument cable, 10/7 metal clad cable, 10/7 aluminum armored cable, 10/7 mc cable, 10/7 mc wire, 10/7 mc cable wiring, 10/7 mc electrical wire.

Standards:

  • UL 44, XHHW-2 600V conductors
  • UL 1569 requirements for Type MC, Metal Clad cables
  • UL 2225 for Hazardous Locations
  • Designated Type MC as per NEC 2008 and NEC 2011 Article 330
  • CSA C22.2 No. 123-08 for Aluminum Sheathed Cables
  • CSA C22.2 No. 174-M1984 for Hazardous Locations

Construction

Conductors:

Instrumentation cable conductors are made from bare annealed copper in accordance with ASTM B-3 and ASTM B-8. Copper is used for this application because of its amazing electrical properties and flexibility.

Insulation:

Insulation is very important in any electrical cable since it prevents the electrocution of cable handlers. This metal cable insulation is XLPE insulation, type XHHW-2 per UL 44, which is flexible but very tough, made of a complex chain of molecules forming a sturdy polymer. It can withstand a wide range of temperatures, is resistant to chemicals and UV light deformations, water-tight, and easy to cut.

Armor:

The armor protects the cable from external damages in addition to the shield and is made using impervious continuously welded and corrugated aluminum.

Jacket:

This metal clad cable jacket is made of PVC. This material is resistant to flames, sunlight, chemicals, abrasion, corrosion, moisture, industrial solvents, oils, acids, alkalis, and radiation.
