Applications:

8-8-8 Aluminum SEU cable is primarily used as a service entrance cable for residential applications, supplying power from the utility meter to the main panel. It can also be used for panel feeders in multi-unit dwellings and branch circuits. This cable has a 600V voltage rating and is designed for use in both wet and dry locations with a maximum operating temperature of 90°C.

This particular 8-8-8 size is suitable for:

• Residential service entrance installations where the neutral also serves as a ground.
• Supplying power from a utility pole to the main breaker panel.
• Small subpanel feeders in apartments and multi-unit dwellings.
• Branch circuits where a combined neutral/ground is acceptable per code.

Construction

Conductors:

The "8-8-8" designation means this SEU cable contains three conductors, each with an 8 AWG (American Wire Gauge) size:

• Two phase conductors (hot wires) for carrying current.
• One neutral conductor, which also serves as the ground conductor as per SEU cable design.
• The conductors are cabled together with a bare aluminum neutral/ground conductor.
• A reinforced binder tape holds the assembly together.

All conductors are made of compact stranded 8000 series aluminum, which is lightweight, corrosion-resistant, and highly conductive.

Insulation:

Each insulated conductor is coated with XHHW-2 cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation, which provides:

• High heat resistance (rated up to 90°C).
• Moisture resistance for wet and dry locations.
• Durability against mechanical stress and chemical exposure.

Jacket:

The cable jacket used in its design is Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC). The jacket protects the inner components of the cable from potentially damaging external forces. PVC is robust and resistant to oil, sunlight, water, flames, acids, chemicals, radiation, impact, abrasion, and weather changes. Sequential footage markings that help the user identify the appropriate length during installation are noted on the cable jacket.
