Product Information

Specification

3/0-3 Interlocked Armor 5KV MV-105 Or MC Non Shielded EPR Insulation

Applications:

The metal clad cable is an electrical wire designed for heavy-duty applications in harsh environments not exceeding 5,000 Volts. The MC wire has an operational temperature rating up to 105°C per the National Electric Code (NEC) recommendations and up to 250°C in case of a short circuit. The cable is armored with an aluminum interlocking strip, which offers great mechanical protection. This electrical cable is crush resistant and lightweight, therefore, not labor-intensive, which makes it a cost-effective option over other wire installations.

Standards:

  • UL Type MV-105 or MC-HL, SUN RES, CT USE, DIR BUR, -40°C, FT4, UL File # E90501
  • UL Listed Marine Shipboard, UL File # E85994
  • CSA Type HL, SR, FT4, -40°C, CSA File # 27161
  • American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) Listed for CWCMC
  • ICEA T-29-520 (210,000 BTU/hr) flame test
  • IEEE 383 (70,000 BTU/hr) flame test
  • CSAFT4 flame test
  • IEEE 1202 (70,000 BTU/hr) flame test
  • UL1072 flame test
  • IEC 60332-3 Category A flame test

Construction

Conductors:

This aluminum armored cable has a soft bare annealed stranded copper conductor (Class B). Copper is the most common material used in electrical wires and cables, which is mostly because it has amazing electrical properties and is cheaper compared to other metals. The stranding enhances its flexibility and enables it to carry more current.

Insulation:

Insulation is very important in any electrical cable since it prevents the electrocution of cable handlers. This metal cable insulation is made of ethylene-propylene rubber (EPR), which is in line with ICEA S-96-659. This material is strong and resistant to harsh environmental conditions.

Jacket:

This metal clad cable jacket is made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) in accordance with UL Standard 1072, which is lead-free. PVC is a strong material and can withstand any punishing environment it is subject to. It can withstand heat, moisture, impact, abrasion, corrosion, chemicals, oils, and weather. The PVC is color-coded to enable easy identification of the cable.

Armor:

The armor protects the cable from external damages. This cable’s armor is made of aluminum interlocked tape in accordance with UL Standard 1569. It is also available in stimulated steel. The armor is resistant to impact, abrasion, corrosion, and flames.
