About:
Covered conductors consist of stranded hard drawn aluminium conductors with either one, two or three extruded layers depending on the voltage rating. Covered conductors are available in black or gray depending on visual preference.
Covered conductors are designed to be used in spacer cable systems. Conductors are suspended from the messenger using Hendrix polyethylene spacers. Covered conductors are rated for continuous operation at 75°C.
Benefits:
• Covering prevents faults due to contact • Proprietary, high density outer layer resists abrasion, electrical tracking and UV degradation. • Reduced NESC phase spacing is possible due to high impulse strength covering.
Standards:
• ASTM B230 (Aluminum 1350-H19 Wire for Electrical Purposes). • ASTM B231 (Concentric-Lay-Stranded Aluminum 1350 Conductors). • ANSI/ICEA S-76-474 (Standard for Neutral-Supported Power Cable Assemblies with Weather-Resistant Extruded Insulation Rated 600 Volts). • Applicable NESC (National Electrical Safety Code) requirements for construction and installation.
Construction:
• Conductors: Utilizes hard-drawn aluminum stranded conductors for effective power transmission and mechanical strength. • Insulation: Features a high-density polyethylene (HDPE) or cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation that provides electrical isolation and protection against environmental factors. •Spacer System: Includes spacers to maintain conductor separation and reduce power losses and interference, enhancing system efficiency. •Shielding: May include a non-conductive or semi-conductive shield to protect against electrical interference and improve operational safety.
Features:
• Improved electrical reliability and efficiency due to the structured spacing and isolation of conductors. • Enhanced resistance to environmental stresses such as UV radiation, extreme temperatures, and abrasive conditions. • Reduced outages and maintenance needs, especially in areas with challenging environmental conditions. • Better safety profile with insulated conductors to minimize risks of contact and arcing. • Compatibility with existing infrastructure, allowing for upgrades or extensions without significant system modifications.
