RCA jack, or RCA connector, commonly known as plum blossom head and lotus head, is a terminal that is widely used and can be used in applications including analog video/audio (eg: AV terminal (three-color cable)), digital audio (eg: S /PDIF) and color difference components (for example color difference terminals) transmission, etc.

In the most common use, the wire has a standard plug on both ends, and there is a male end in the center, surrounded by a ring that is sometimes discarded for flexibility.

The device is equipped with a socket, and there is a small hole in the center surrounded by a metal inner ring. The diameter of the outer ring of the socket is smaller than that of the plug to allow the plug to be inserted stably.

Compared with other types of terminals, RCA terminals are used for different purposes, including as power terminals, radio terminals, and speaker wire terminals.

Very common as an AV terminal (terminal for composite video), but its impedance-matching performance is poor. RCA terminals and cables are also commonly used to transmit S/PDIF digital audio, distinguished by orange plugs, also known as "coaxial cables".

The connection method is to push the plug into the socket of the device (commonly known as the female head). The needle for signal transmission protrudes from the plug. Usually, before the grounding rings of the two sides (referring to the device and the plug) contact, the needle has contacted the socket, and a buzzing or chirping sound will be heard when the activated sound device is connected.

If the plug is halfway out (break ground but not signal), there will be a constant noise. In addition, some plugs, especially the cheapest ones, have greatly reduced tightness and grounding sheath effectiveness.

When used as an AV terminal, RCA plugs are often distinguished by color, yellow is used for composite video, white (or black) is used for the left channel in an analog stereo signal, and red is used for the right channel. "Yellow, white, and red" sockets are also installed in almost all audio and video equipment.

There should be at least one pair of "yellow, white and red" sockets on the TV for connecting camcorders (via the 3.5 mm mini TRS terminal to three RCA terminals, also known as "mini RCA"), digital cameras, and home game consoles.

Although almost all audio and video terminals, including audio, composite and component video, and SPDIF digital audio, can be used with cables with a characteristic impedance of 75 ohms, some special-purpose cables on the market have higher resistance values.

The RCA terminal male pin is 3.175 mm in diameter, and the housing it surrounds is 8.25 mm in diameter.

One disadvantage of RCA is that whenever a separate signal is required, a separate cable is required. There are many cables, which makes wiring difficult on the one hand. In addition, after the cables are connected, the messy cables also affect the appearance.

The Radio Corporation of America (RCA) used this type of connection in most radios in the 1930s, which is why the connector got its name.
