Allowable Ampacity for 8-3C Stranded Copper AC Lite Interlocked Galvanized THHN Insulation Aluminum Armored Cable 100 Amps

Armored cable, commonly known as Type AC cable or BX electrical cable, is one of the original flexible conduit styles used as an alternative to traditional pipe and wire installations. Manufactured to the UL 4 standard, it features a 16 AWG bare aluminum bond wire that, together with the armor, serves as the grounding path. AC cable is suitable for various applications as specified by the NEC Code. Key differences between AC cable and other types include a limit of four phase conductors for sizes ranging from 14 AWG to 1 AWG, and the use of a paper wrap around conductors, whereas other cables typically use a polypropylene wrap or extrude insulation directly over the conductors.

Applications:

Branch circuits and feeder wiring for commercial, industrial, and multi-residential applications, including services for power, lighting, control, and signal circuits. Suitable for exposed or concealed installations, surface mounting, embedding in plaster finishes on brick or other masonry (excluding wet or damp locations), fishing through or running in air voids of masonry block or tile walls, under raised floors, above suspended ceilings, and within environmental air-handling spaces. Features galvanized aluminum armor.
