A shunt is a device that allows electric current to pass around another point in the circuit by creating a low resistance path. This is done is order to protect equipment from overcurrent and provide circuit protection. It can also be used to reduce voltage for applications that require less than what a circuit is currently carrying. All Pacer shunts are built to be simple to install and have been designed with longevity in mind. When installing for continuous operation, it is recommended that shunts not be run at more than two-thirds (66%) of the rated current under normal conditions. Shunts are not the easiest product to understand.
