Specification

8 AWG THHN THWN-2 Stranded Copper Building Wire

Allowable Ampacity:

  • 40 Amps for General Applications (60°C)

  • 50 Amps in Wet Locations (75°C)

  • 55 Amps in Dry Locations (90°C)

Description

8 AWG THHN/THWN-2 stranded copper wire is a reliable choice for residential, commercial, and industrial wiring. Rated for THHN (thermoplastic high heat-resistant nylon, dry) and THWN-2 (wet) environments, it supports up to 600 volts and operates at temperatures up to 90°C. The flame-retardant PVC jacket resists sunlight, moisture, and chemicals, making it dependable for conduit systems, control circuits, and motor connections. It comes in lengths of 25 ft, 50 ft, 100 ft, 250 ft, and 500 ft, as well as by the foot for custom lengths.

Applications for 8 AWG THHN Wire

8 AWG THHN wire, with a capacity of up to 55 amps, is ideal for:

  • Residential Subpanels: Distributing power to outbuildings or specific areas in larger homes.

  • Air Conditioning Units: Powering medium-sized residential and light commercial systems.

  • Water Heaters: Handling electric units requiring higher amperage.

  • Large Appliances: Wiring ovens, ranges, and HVAC units.

  • Motor Connections: Reliable for motors in residential, commercial, and industrial setups.

  • Conduit Systems: Easily installed in structured wiring systems using conduits.

  • Branch Circuits and Feeders: Distributing power from service panels to outlets, fixtures, and appliances.
