Exactly what I need

Local suppliers said 4-6 weeks. Ordered and received before I even got a shipping notification. Had no idea it was on its way just came home to find it on the porch.

2/0-2/0-1-4 Aluminum Mobile Home Feeder Direct Burial Cable 600V

Allowable Ampacity for 2/0-2/0-1-4 Aluminum Mobile Home Feeder Cable: 150 Amps

Applications:

2/0-2/0-1-4 Aluminum Mobile Home Feeder Cable is a 150-amp, 600V-rated service entrance cable designed to carry power from a utility meter base to the main panel in a mobile or manufactured home. It is also commonly used as a feeder to subpanels in modular buildings, large residential structures, garages, and light commercial units.

Approved for direct burial when marked USE-2, this cable can also be installed in conduit, ducts, or raceways in both wet and dry environments. The cross-linked polyethylene (XLP) insulation provides excellent resistance to moisture, abrasion, and chemicals, making it ideal for outdoor and underground use.

In size 2/0-2/0-1-4, the cable is typically used to deliver 150 amps of power to heavy-load subpanels supporting HVAC systems, appliances, lighting, and general-purpose circuits in high-demand residential or light commercial setups.

Also Known As:

2/0-2/0-1-4 aluminum cable, 2/0-2/0-1-4 aluminum wire, 2/0-2/0-1-4 mobile home feeder cable, 2/0-2/0-1-4 underground feeder cable, 2/0-2/0-1-4 service entrance cable, 2/0-2/0-1-4 electrical feeder cable, 2/0-2/0-1-4 power feeder cable, 2/0-2/0-1-4 MHF cable, mobile home electrical wire, 150 amp mobile home feeder wire, 2/0-2/0-1-4 direct burial wire.

Standards:

  • Ampacities based on National Electric Code, 2005n edition, section 310-15

  • National Electric Code (NEC)

  • UL 44 for types RHH & RHW-2

  • UL 854 for type USE-2

  • ASTM standards B 800, B 801

  • Sunlight resistant

  • RUS ACCEPTED

Construction

Conductors:

The 2/0-2/0-1-4 cable includes two 2/0 AWG phase conductors, one 1 AWG neutral, and one 4 AWG ground. All conductors are compact stranded 8000 series aluminum per ASTM B-800/B-801.

Insulation:

It has cross-linked polyethylene (XLP) insulation. The conductors are normally cabled together with XLP insulated aluminum ground or bare copper ground and covered with reinforced binder tape. XLP insulation is tough and resistant to impact, abrasion, chemicals, acids, oils, industrial solvents, and changes in weather.

    FAQ's

What does 2/0-2/0-1-4 AL MHF mean?

Two 2/0 AWG aluminum hot conductors, one #1 AWG aluminum insulated neutral, and one #4 AWG aluminum insulated equipment grounding conductor. All four conductors are individually insulated, rated 600V, with USE-2 or XHHW-2 insulation.

What is Mobile Home Feeder (MHF) cable?

A 4-conductor aluminum cable for feeding power from a service panel to a mobile or manufactured home. Modern MHF uses USE-2 or XHHW-2 conductor insulation, both listed for direct burial and wet locations. The "four conductor, all insulated" construction sets it apart from standard SER, which usually has a bare ground.

What amp rating does 2/0-2/0-1-4 aluminum MHF support?

For a residential dwelling service or main power feeder to a dwelling, 2/0 aluminum is rated for 150A under the reduced-sizing allowance in NEC 310.12. For non-dwelling applications, the standard 75°C ampacity from NEC 310.16 applies: 2/0 AWG aluminum is rated 135A at 75°C. The reduced #1 neutral and #4 ground follow common utility feeder practice for balanced dwelling loads.

Is 2/0-2/0-1-4 MHF cable rated for direct burial?

Yes. The individual conductors inside standard MHF are USE-2 or XHHW-2, both listed for direct burial in wet locations. Follow NEC 300.5 for burial depth: 24 inches for direct-buried residential feeders under 600V, 18 inches under a concrete slab, and shallower depths where protected by conduit.

Does MHF cable satisfy the NEC 4-wire feeder requirement for a separate structure?

Yes. Since 2008, NEC 250.32 has required a 4-wire feeder to a separate structure, with two hots, an insulated neutral, and a separate equipment ground, with the neutral and ground bonded only at the main service disconnect. MHF is built exactly this way. You still need a grounding electrode (typically a ground rod, or two rods 6 ft apart if a single rod does not achieve 25 ohms) at the second structure.

Can I use MHF cable to feed a pole barn or detached garage?

Yes, and this is one of the most common non-mobile-home uses. MHF gives you the four insulated conductors NEC 250.32 requires, along with a direct-burial rating. Size the cable for load and run length, install a grounding electrode at the outbuilding, and keep neutral and ground separated at the subpanel. Rule of thumb: 2/0 aluminum is a good fit for 135 to 150A loads at runs up to about 175 ft.

Do I need a separate ground rod at the mobile home end of the feeder?

Yes. NEC 250.32 requires a grounding electrode at the second structure. For mobile homes, this is typically a driven ground rod (or two rods 6 ft apart if a single rod does not achieve 25 ohms). The neutral and equipment ground must remain separated at the mobile home service equipment, since bonding happens only at the main service disconnect in the main structure. NEC 550 covers mobile home wiring specifically.

Can I use MHF cable inside conduit for the run to a mobile home?

Yes. The conductors inside MHF are USE-2 or XHHW-2, both suitable for wet locations and installation in underground conduit. Some electricians prefer to pull individual XHHW-2 or USE-2 conductors through the conduit instead of the MHF assembly, because loose conductors are easier to pull and take up less conduit fill area. Either approach is code-compliant.

How far can I run 2/0-2/0-1-4 MHF for 150A service?

Voltage drop, not ampacity, is the sizing limit at long distances. Rule of thumb for a 150A load on 2/0 aluminum at 240V single phase, keeping voltage drop under 3%: about 150 to 175 ft. Beyond that, upsize to 4/0 aluminum. Do the actual voltage-drop calculation for the specific load and run length before ordering.

What voltage drop should I expect on 2/0-2/0-1-4 aluminum MHF?

At 150A load, 240V single phase, on 2/0 aluminum, expected voltage drop is roughly 3% at 175 ft, 5% at 285 ft, and 7% at 400 ft. Standard practice keeps total voltage drop (feeder plus branch circuits) under 5%, with the feeder itself under 3%. Use a proper calculation with the actual load current before ordering.
