Need Advice on Upgrading Electrical Panel From 100 Amps to 200 Amps
-
Hello everyone, I'm considering upgrading my 100-amp electrical panel to a 200-amp one due to new appliances and a home extension. What should I look out for, and approximately how much should this cost? Is there any advice on how not to make rookie mistakes?

Make a load calculation right before to make sure that 200 amp service is what you need. If you need a professional for this, just hire one, do not overthink about it. It's likely that you'll need 200 amps. Enjoy, a house is actually way bettwe with more amps.
Figure out which permit you need in your area and get in on time. Better be early. Not sure where are you located, but you can expect the price to be anywhere between 2k and 4k. It depends on whether the service should be upgraded or replaced and how much old wiring should be brought up to code.
What else? Focus on more than just the panel upgrade and consider the condition of the entire electrical system. Also, include whole-home surge protection together with the panel upgrade.0 likes 0 likes
