NMD90 Canadian Aluminum Building Wire

Applications:

NM90 aluminum wire is used in any exposed and concealed wiring in dry or wet locations, and when exposed to the weather. It is also widely used in ventilated, non-ventilated, and ladder-type cable trays in wet and dry areas. The electrical cable is suitable for direct earth burial and service entrance above or below ground. It can be used in hazardous locations as long as there are approved connectors. The electrical cable should not be exposed to mechanical injuries without an approved connector. NM90 is rated at 300 volts. Aluminum NM90 are designed identically to their copper counterparts. The cable is rated at between -25°C and 90 °C (dry) when it comes to temperatures.

Construction:

Conductors:

The wire is equipped with one to four aluminum conductors. The exact type of a conductor is a bare aluminum (8000 series aluminum) compact class “B” stranded conductor. In multi-conductor cables, there is a bare aluminum bonding ground wire. Single conductor cables have a copper concentric bonding wire. Aluminum has a relatively good electrical conductivity. Its conductivity is 60% that of copper, a metal that has the best electrical conductivity. To reach the required conductivity of copper, our gauge size is increased by 2AWG. Despite its light weight, aluminum has excellent tensile strength. The aluminum conductor has a large diameter, which reduces resistance to the flow of current and low power losses. Aluminum wire is very flexible hence easily installed since it can be easily folded and to fit into ducts.

Insulation:

The wire has low-temperature cross-linked polyethylene insulation (RW90 XLPE). There are black, red, blue, and white variations of insulation. XLPE insulation is preferred due to its high mechanical strength and exceptional durability. 

Jacket:

Conductor assembly is wrapped and enclosed in an interlocked aluminum armor with overall low acid gas, low flame spread, sunlight resistant PVC jacket (LAG/LFS) with FT4, and AG14 rating.
