Black Hole

I thought I ordered one black, one white, and one green roll of wire, but I received three black rolls. I wanted to return two rolls for the correct colors and was told I had to pay a 35% restock fee. I will not do that, and the conversation went into a black hole. I will not shop with you again. Good written.

Product Information

Specification

12 AWG THHN THWN-2 Solid Copper Building Wire

Applications:

SIMpull THHN/THWN-2 copper conductors are primarily used in conduit and cable trays for services, feeders, and branch circuits in commercial or industrial applications as specified in the National Electrical Code and other applicable codes and standards. Voltage for all applications is 600 volts. SIMpull THHN/THWN-2 copper conductors are designed to be installed without the application of a pulling lubricant. These conductors have multiple ratings depending upon the product application. 600 Volts. Copper Conductor. PVC Insulation/Nylon Sheath THHN/THWN-2. Heat, Moisture, Gasoline and Oil Resistant II.

Allowable temperatures are as follows:

- THHN or T90 Nylon- Dry locations not to exceed 90°C
- THWN-2
- Wet or dry locations not to exceed 90° C or locations not to exceed 75°C when exposed to oil
- TWN75- Wet locations not to exceed 75°C
- MTW- Wet locations or when exposed to oil at temperatures not to exceed 60°C or dry locations not to exceed 90°C (with ampacity limited to that for 75°C conductor temperature per NFPA 79)
- AWM- Dry locations not to exceed 105°C only when rated and used as appliance wiring material

Also Known As:

12 copper wire, 12 building cable, 12 hook up wire, 12 conduit wire, 12 nylon wire, 12 construction cable, 12 thermoplastic-insulated copper wire, 12 THHN-PVC tray cable, 12 CU THHN THWN-2, 12 CU Building Wire, 12 Black Stranded CU SIMpull THHN Wire, Southwire 11587301, Southwire Wire, 12 AWG THHN/THWN-2 Solid Building Wire, 12 Black Solid CU THHN Wire.

Construction:

    Conductor:

THHN THWN-2 conductors are constructed of annealed soft copper that follows ASTM B3 and ASTM B8 standards.

    Insulation:

The cable is insulated with a thermoset plastic jacket (PVC) that is flame-retardant, sunlight-resistant, lead-free, strong, and stable. Without being too bulky, it ensures that the cable can be used in harsh conditions. The jacket is color-coded in accordance with ICEA Method 4.

    FAQ's

What is the maximum ampacity of #12 THHN wire?

The maximum ampacity of #12 THHN wire is 20 amps.

    What does THHN stand for?

THHN stands for "Thermoplastic High Heat-resistant Nylon-coated."

What is THHN Wire suitable for?

THHN wire is suitable for electrical conduits, indoor and outdoor use (as long as ranked THWN), building wire across industries, and control circuits.

Does THHN Have to Be in Conduit?

Yes, THHN must always be installed in conduit as per NEC. The only exception to this rule is when THHN is installed in control panels.

    Can THHN Be Direct Buried?

THHN does not have an appropriate rating for direct burial because of its construction, but THHN/THWN-2 with a double rating can.

Is THHN Rated for Wet Locations?

THHN is rated for dry locations, while THWN is rated for wet locations.

Can THHN Be Used in Underground Conduit?

The wire used for the underground conduit should have a THWN-2 rating for wet locations.

Can You Run THHN in Walls?

You can run THHN wire in walls within conduit or raceway, but NM-B wire is generally a more popular option for indoor wiring.

Can you use THHN wire for automotive?

Using THHN wire for automotive applications is not recommended.

    Is THHN wire waterproof?

THHN/THWN is not waterproof. While it is suited for wet environments, it cannot be directly submerged in water.
