How to choose a battery cable?

  The battery is essential to most vehicles since it powers the components inside. It would help if you had battery cables with the right features to make the connection. So, we wanted to share with you what you have to take into consideration in choosing a battery cable:

  First, the wire gauge (also known as strand count) determines the flexibility of the battery cable. Stranded conductors are composed of multiple strands of metal bunched together. This makes them much more flexible than solid conductors. Typically, a 4 AWG wire is sufficient for many needs. However, some vehicles, such as trucks and cars, need higher-gauge cables. 

  Second, the length of the cable should be sufficient to reach from the battery to the component it is powering. If the cable is too short, it can cause strain on the cable, which can lead to damage over time. 

  Last but not least, you have to consider the material of the battery. Battery cables are typically made from copper or aluminum. Copper is a better conductor of electricity and is more durable than aluminum. However, it is also more expensive. Aluminum cables are lighter and less expensive, but they are not as durable and do not conduct electricity as well as copper.
